The European Union has approved the 17th package of sanctions against Russia

Representatives of the European Union countries approved a new package of sanctions against Russia on Wednesday, May 14. These measures are aimed at undermining the economic and military potential of the aggressor country.

According to the diplomat, the sanctions target Russia's 'shadow fleet', consisting of nearly 200 vessels, including oil tankers used to circumvent existing restrictions. Measures have also been adopted against over 30 new companies violating the restrictions, particularly regarding dual-use products for military purposes. In addition, the EU imposed individual sanctions against individuals associated with the Russian military-industrial complex. Restrictions have also been implemented due to human rights violations, hybrid interference, and the proliferation of chemical weapons.

The final approval of these sanctions is planned for the European Council meeting on foreign affairs on May 20. It is important to note that after this, the European Union plans to work on the 18th package of sanctions against Russia.
