No Illusions About Russian Respect: Zelenskyy on Moscow's Growing Desire to End the War.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Remarks
According to UATV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that while Russians increasingly wish to conclude the war, he does not anticipate any shift in their attitude toward Ukrainians. Responding to a question from Oleg Borisov, a correspondent for the FREEДOM TV channel, Zelenskyy expressed skepticism about any change in Russian perceptions of Ukrainians.
'There are no illusions. The number of people who have begun to treat us with respect has not increased. I do not believe in that' – Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Zelenskyy also emphasized that Ukraine continues to ramp up pressure on Russia, which in turn launches fresh aggressive attacks. The president noted:
'Our main goal is to reduce the resources Russia spends on the war, and we see that this is working' – Volodymyr Zelenskyy
He stressed the importance of preventing Russia from normalizing the conflict, stating: 'We must not allow Russia to make us get used to the war.'
Ukraine's Defense Plans
Additionally, Zelenskyy revealed that Ukraine could become the third country capable of producing missiles for Patriot air defense systems. This development would strengthen the nation's defensive capabilities and enhance its security amid ongoing Russian aggression.
These comments from President Zelenskyy underscore the complexity of Ukraine's situation and his view that Russian attitudes will remain unchanged despite any desire to end the war—highlighting deep social and political divides between the two countries. Beyond that, Ukraine's plans to manufacture Patriot system missiles could significantly bolster its defensive power, a critical need as Russian aggression persists. Such steps may also reshape regional security dynamics and deepen cooperation with international partners.
