Bulgaria allocated additional funds for Ukrainian schoolchildren.
The Bulgarian government approved the allocation of nearly 300,000 levs for free school transport for students from Ukraine who are in Bulgaria under temporary protection. This was reported by The Sofia Globe.
The interim government of Bulgaria, at its meeting, approved a sum of 297,674 levs (about 151,000 euros) to cover transport costs to schools for students from Ukraine who are under temporary protection in the country.
These funds will be used for transporting students from their places of accommodation to educational institutions throughout the next academic year 2024/2025.
Most children study in schools in the regions of Burgas and Varna. Those children who could not get into educational institutions in their areas have to attend institutions in remote locations. The Bulgarian government decided to provide additional funds for organizing transport to ensure children's access to education.
The financial assistance will be provided from the budget of the Ministry of Education and Science of Bulgaria, as well as from the budgets of five municipalities: Nesebar, Pomorie, Varna, Aksakovo, and Balchik.
Let us remind you that the interim government of Bulgaria extended humanitarian assistance for Ukrainian refugees from July 1 to December 31, 2024. The mechanism for providing aid to refugees from Ukraine was introduced in 2022.
