The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, around 3:00 PM. Emergency services arrived at Cap Sant Pere beach in Cambrils, but unfortunately, it was too late to save the man.
Police and a lifeguard from a nearby hotel tried to assist, but when the ambulance arrived, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Another ambulance was called to assist his wife, who suffered a panic attack.
At the time of the incident, a yellow flag was raised on the beach, allowing swimming in the sea with caution. It is believed that the man may have suffered a heart attack in the water, and it is not yet known how he made it back to shore.
Local authorities have not yet disclosed the identity of the deceased. It is worth noting that rescue services do not operate on the beach outside the high tourist season, and the nearest lifeguards had to come from the nearby Vila Fortuny beach.
Sad story from Llolgya
Local Spanish media uncovered that lifeguards had not been warned about the emergency but arrived at the scene upon hearing the sirens.
This tragedy occurred just 15 minutes' drive from Llolgya beach, where two children from Birmingham drowned in July. Ameia and Ricardo Junior, aged 13 and 11 respectively, were pulled from the water on July 29 after being seen in distress.
Their father, builder Ricardo Senior, tried to save them; however, he needed the help of lifeguards.

After the official announcement of the children's deaths, their cousin Holly Marquis-Johnson said: “The pain that their family feels is unimaginable.”

In a moving tribute, she spoke about the children from Birmingham, known by the nicknames Maya and Jobs: “Maya was intelligent, aware, and was becoming a strong young woman. Ricardo Junior was playful, kind, and always smiling. They brought a lot of love, laughter, and energy into the lives of everyone around them. Their absence has left an unbearable silence not only for their parents but for the entire family, which was extremely close and had an unbreakable bond.”
