Last night, around 10:30 local time, an American tourist recognized him in a supermarket thanks to the family's appeals on social media and called his daughter.
Clifford's daughter, Melanie Hall, said: “To say I'm overjoyed is an understatement.'
She also added: 'I immediately called the police, they came to pick him up and took him to the hospital.'
The family was very concerned about his safety. His wife Joan and other relatives had only recently arrived in Spain.
Clifford had planned to fly to Manchester this morning with a friend who joined him for the celebration, but he couldn't find his flight.
Melanie noted: 'There were no signs of him in Malaga.'
Melanie said: “My dad is ill and was found showing signs of dehydration. We don't know where he slept, as he looks very tired.”
The family's alarm grew, and they were worried about his health.
“It's just amazing that an American tourist recognized my dad,” she noted.
The card he had was used several times, but it is unclear whether he used it himself or someone else did.
“We are all very worried. I was planning to come to Spain this morning, but we were advised to wait.”
Melanie also added that one of the purchases made with his card was for £7 at a supermarket nearby, about five minutes from where he was last seen.
Clifford, originally from Ashton-under-Lyne in Greater Manchester, but now living in Whitby in North Yorkshire, had come to Spain just for the weekend.
He left his phone and passport at a friend's apartment in La Cala de Mijas but didn’t know the address as he had never been there before.
Melanie said: “Everyone loves my dad. He is a friendly, talkative person and very well-known in Marsden, where all his friends live.”
Clifford's disappearance was initially posted by his family on social media, where Melanie reported that her father “was not feeling well” at the time of his disappearance.
“Missing person last seen at Patrick’s 19th Hole Bar in Puerto Banus. He is 76 years old, from the UK, his name is Clifford Wildgus. The family is very concerned, and the police have been informed. Any information - please get in touch,” she wrote.
