The United Kingdom prepares NATO troops for Greenland: a response to Trump's plans.
According to ТСН: Negotiations are ongoing in the United Kingdom with European partners regarding the potential deployment of NATO in Greenland.
According to the Telegraph, the British government is consulting with allies.
"Downing Street is negotiating with European allies about deploying military forces in Greenland to protect the Arctic from U.S. President Donald Trump,"- the article states.
Plan for military deployment
Recently, representatives from the United Kingdom met with officials from France and Germany to preliminarily discuss this plan. Thus, British soldiers are planned to be sent to Greenland.
Threat from the USA
It should be reminded that Donald Trump has ordered the United States Special Operations Command to prepare a plan for military intervention in Greenland.
Sources indicate that Trump's associates are inspired by the recent U.S. operation in Venezuela, during which President Nicolas Maduro was detained, and view it as a precedent for more decisive actions.
Opposition from American military
However, according to media reports, the leadership of the American military is opposed to these plans. They believe that the invasion would be illegal and is unlikely to receive support from the U.S. Congress.
Upon returning to the White House in January 2025, Trump has repeatedly expressed his intention to include Greenland as part of the USA. In a January interview with The Atlantic, he described the island as
"absolutely essential"for the defense of the USA.
The situation surrounding Greenland is causing serious international discussions and concerns. Instances where major powers attempt to expand their influence through military actions can lead to escalation of conflicts and challenges for global security. Observers are monitoring the further actions of the participating countries and possible repercussions for the region.
