Ukraine Faces a Rising Wave of Terrorist Activity

According to Novyny.live: Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine's Main Directorate of Intelligence, has issued a stark warning about the increasing risk of terrorist attacks within the country. He stated that Russia is likely to employ such tactics to destabilize Ukraine further. Budanov expressed concern that Ukrainian citizens must prepare for a potential surge in these incidents should Moscow choose to escalate this form of aggression.

“Unfortunately, we must be prepared for the possibility that there could be many more such cases,” said Kyrylo Budanov.

Recent Attacks Highlight the Danger

A series of recent attacks underscores this growing threat. On the night of February 22, a terrorist act in Lviv resulted in the death of 23-year-old police officer Viktoriia Shpylka and left more than 20 people wounded. According to reports, on February 23, a court ordered the suspected perpetrator of the crime to be held in custody until April 22. These developments occur within the broader context of Russia's ongoing hybrid war against Ukraine, which increasingly targets civilian areas and infrastructure.

  • In Mykolaiv, an explosion at a disused gas station injured patrol police officers. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed authorities were investigating the incident as a possible terrorist attack.
  • The following day, February 23, an explosion rocked a police administrative building in Dnipro, further heightening public alarm.
  • Earlier, on February 16 in Odesa, a man was detained on suspicion of detonating a car in the Kyiv district. Commenting on the situation, Budanov noted:
“It's one thing when you don't know what will happen to you next. But when you see that people are detained for every such act and face life imprisonment, they will start to think twice,” said Kyrylo Budanov.

These events demonstrate the serious and immediate threat of terrorism facing Ukraine and the urgent need for enhanced security measures.

The rise in terrorist activity is viewed as a consequence of deliberate actions by the Russian Federation, signaling an escalation of the conflict and a direct threat to public safety. Ukrainian authorities are urging law enforcement and the public to increase their vigilance and readiness for potential new attacks. This situation underscores the critical need for strengthened security protocols and closer cooperation between state agencies to effectively counter terrorist threats.
