According to The Sun: Robert Redford, the legendary actor and director, passed away at the age of 89.

This great artist is remembered for his vibrant roles in films such as 'All the President's Men' and 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid'.

Redford died in his sleep at his home in Utah on Tuesday morning, confirmed his press secretary Cindy Berger.

“Robert Redford passed away on September 16, 2025, at his home in Sandown, in the mountains of Utah – a place he loved, surrounded by his closest people,” Berger’s statement to The U.S. Sun said.

He is survived by his wife, German artist Sibylle Zaghars, two children, and seven grandchildren.

Unfortunately, he was outlived by two sons: one died of sudden infant death syndrome in 1959, and the other in 2020 after a long battle with cancer.

GOLDEN BOY

Honored with the title of Hollywood's 'golden boy', Redford became a symbol of romance in films 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid', 'All the President's Men', and 'Three Days of the Condor'.

His role in 'The Candidate' earned him an Oscar nomination in 1973, which was his first and only nomination for this award for acting.

Beginning his career as an actor, Redford also tried his hand at directing, winning four Oscars for his debut in this role in 'Ordinary People' in 1980.

He continued to act in later years, notably collaborating with Jane Fonda in the film 'Our Souls at Night' in 2017.

When he turned 82, he decided that 'The Old Man & The Gun' would be his last film.

Acting icon Robert Redford became one of the most recognized faces in Western cinema and founded the largest film festival in the USA before his death at the age of 89.

The Hollywood legend and environmentalist passed away in his home in the mountains near Provo, Utah, on the morning of September 16, 2025.

Redford founded the Sundance Film Institute in 1981 to support independent artists.

In 1984, he took over the festival in Utah, which bears his name.

Now, the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, has become a legendary international showcase for independent films.

Along with his career as a director, actor, and producer, Redford was an activist for many years, advocating for nature in Utah since he moved there in 1961.
