Is Uman Ready to Host Hasidim This Year? State Ethnopolitics Response.
The Mayor of Uman, Iryna Pletnyova, confirmed the city's readiness to welcome pilgrims. She noted that proper sanitary conditions have been ensured and an action plan for emergencies has been developed. This was reported by the press service of the State Service for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience following the working group's meeting the day before.
Despite Russia's war against Ukraine, thousands of Breslov Hasidim, as every year, plan to arrive in Uman to celebrate Rosh Hashanah. However, Iryna Pletnyova emphasized that due to the limited number of shelters needed for a significant number of pilgrims, the city cannot guarantee one hundred percent safety.
«This creates significant challenges for the local authorities and requires maximum coordination of efforts from all involved parties», the press service notes.
Recall that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine calls on Hasidim to refrain from pilgrimage to Uman for Rosh Hashanah due to Russia's military aggression. In case of arrival, pilgrims should take into account martial law restrictions and possible complications of stay.
Earlier, the head of Cherkasy OVA Ihor Taburets called on Hasidim to refrain from pilgrimage to Uman for the celebration of Rosh Hashanah. Taburets added that a local operational headquarters will be deployed during the pilgrimage to coordinate efforts.
