Weapons supply to Ukraine has not decreased after Trump's decision: NATO general on new mechanism.
According to ТСН: The supply of weapons to Ukraine continues despite U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to suspend direct transfers. This was reported by Major General Mike Keller, Deputy Commander of the NATO Mission for Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine (NSATU).
Since taking office in January 2025, the Trump administration implemented the sale of weapons to Ukraine or provided assistance solely based on decisions made by former President Joe Biden. Since the fall, Ukraine has been receiving weapons from U.S. stockpiles under the PURL mechanism developed by the U.S. and its allies, with funding from NATO countries.
“There has been no pause; supplies have simply continued, and it's not about the U.S. waiting for payment to be made. As soon as a new PURL package is announced, the flow of materials begins. We see that many European countries are actually taking on funding,” he said.
The NATO mission to support Ukraine has actively coordinated arms supply since December 2024, aligning Kyiv's needs for weapons, equipment, and training with proposals from donor countries both within and outside the Alliance.
It is worth noting that the government of Giorgia Meloni unexpectedly changed its position on military support for Kyiv, suspending participation in the NATO program for purchasing American weapons for Ukraine.
This situation indicates the complex political context of international support for Ukraine. Despite changes in the U.S. administration and the positions of individual countries, the supply of weapons remains an important element of supporting Ukraine amid security challenges. The situation in the field of military support requires careful monitoring, as it can significantly impact the further development of events in the region.
