No unnecessary luxury
The third-generation Mitsubishi Outlander, produced from 2012 to 2022, was presented as a maximally simple and reliable vehicle. Against the backdrop of modern complex models, it looks like an ordinary car with
its drawbacksand advantages.

Engine Selection
- Gasoline 2.0 (150 hp). The engine is reliable, but has its peculiarities. It works in tandem with a 5-speed manual transmission, which often lacks a sixth gear, leading to increased fuel consumption on the highway (the average is about 9 L/100 km). The variant with a CVT solves the transmission issue but still increases fuel consumption and adds noise during acceleration. However, the Jatco CVT, provided that the oil is regularly changed, is considered durable.
- Diesel 2.2 Di-D (150 hp). The best choice in terms of dynamics and economy. Thanks to the high torque (380 Nm), it provides better dynamics, and the fuel consumption rarely exceeds 8 L/100 km. The engine works with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission and has a good reputation. Its only drawback is more expensive maintenance, typical for all diesels.
- Hybrid (PHEV). This version is heavy, not very fast, and not always economical. The PHEV is advantageous in the city, on short distances, but its advantages are diminished on the highway.
Potential Issues
The biggest problem is corrosion. The paintwork is quite fragile, and rust quickly appears at chip locations. Special attention is needed for: subframes, mounts, and the exhaust system.
The electrical system can also fail: contacts age over time, and the control module for the main devices can fail.
This is a review of the third-generation Mitsubishi Outlander, which is defined as a simple and reliable vehicle along with its features and drawbacks. The article describes the choice of engines, outlining their characteristics and advantages, as well as emphasizing potential problems that the owner of this vehicle may encounter.Read also
