Trump may provide security guarantees to Ukraine: what the CIA expert said.
According to ТСН: US President Donald Trump is committed to fulfilling security guarantees for Ukraine if he makes such a promise publicly. This opinion belongs to former CIA employee Ralph Goff, who expressed it on the air of the News.Live channel.
Goff also noted that Trump has a positive track record of keeping his promises, especially when they are announced publicly.
“We (the US) have a bad history with such promises, but let’s leave that aside. If President Donald Trump publicly promises to provide security guarantees, I think he will keep his word. He has a good track record of keeping his word when he makes commitments publicly,” said the former CIA official.
Goff emphasized that it is important to determine what kind of security guarantees for Ukraine may be acceptable to Russia. As of today, Moscow claims it will not accept any guarantees from the West. Goff believes this position of the Kremlin is unacceptable.
He also recalled the statement of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, that an agreement is only possible on the condition of compromise from both sides.
“This was a hopeful signal. I have always said: a good peace is one that everyone is dissatisfied with. Let’s see if security guarantees can become that point that Russia won't like, but will have to accept,” concluded the former CIA official.
According to The New York Times, 18 national security advisors arrived in Ukraine to discuss the defense system, economic recovery, and the phased conclusion of the war. The main provisions of these discussions are planned to be agreed upon as early as January. Options for providing security guarantees based on NATO Article 5, maintaining an 800,000-strong army with the support of partners, and engaging European countries willing to deploy their forces on Ukrainian territory are being considered.
Formulating realistic and acceptable security guarantees for all parties remains an important step in resolving the conflict. The coming weeks may be decisive for determining further steps in this direction, particularly in the context of international support for Ukraine and its territorial integrity.
