Newly Appointed 'Servant of the People' MP Declines Mandate and Departs for Israel.
Roman Kravets Recognized as a Member of Parliament
According to TSN.ua: The Central Election Commission of Ukraine has officially recognized Roman Kravets as a new Member of Parliament from the 'Servant of the People' party. However, Kravets has declined to accept the parliamentary mandate and has relocated to Israel. He was slated to replace Dmytro Natalukha, who left parliament after being appointed head of Ukraine's State Property Fund. This move comes at a time when Ukraine's political system is under significant strain due to the ongoing war.
Background and Career of Roman Kravets
Born in 1994, Roman Kravets previously ran for parliament in 2019 but was unsuccessful in securing a seat. His professional experience includes involvement in media ventures:
- In 2022, he sold an anonymous Telegram channel named 'Joker,' which, according to Ukraine's Security Service (SBU), was used for destructive information activities.
- The sale of the channel was reportedly valued at $2 million, paid in cryptocurrency.
Kravets explained his decision to refuse the parliamentary seat, stating:
"I have made a personal decision not to enter the Parliament and to decline the deputy's mandate. I believe that during wartime, positions of power should be held by professional people with relevant experience." - Roman Kravets
The next candidate in line on the 'Servant of the People' party list is businessman Bohdan Kozub.
Kravets's refusal of the mandate underscores a broader debate about qualifications for governance during a national crisis. His comment on the need for experienced leadership reflects the acute challenges Ukraine faces. The 'Servant of the People' party must now swiftly propose a replacement to ensure continued representation for its constituents.
