The World Economic Forum in Davos

According to UATV: At the World Economic Forum in Davos, which began on January 19, 2026, the primary focus of discussions has shifted to issues surrounding Donald Trump and a growing international dispute over Greenland. Consequently, the topic of Ukraine, while still on the agenda, has been relegated to a position of third-tier importance. The annual meeting, which typically sets the global agenda, is reflecting a significant realignment of geopolitical priorities.

A Ukrainian delegation, which includes Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Budanov, is present at the forum, with Budanov having spoken on a panel. Concurrently, Kirill Dmitriev, a Russian special envoy, met with Trump's special representative, Steve Witkoff. This meeting underscores the rising prominence of the Greenland conflict, which is increasingly taking center stage in international relations.

"This should be taken calmly; it is an objective situation."

Volodymyr Fesenko

He added that 'the Ukraine topic is a long-term one.' Fesenko also emphasized that 'as I understand it, the negotiations are continuing.'

It is important to note that the President of Ukraine decided against attending the forum due to a severe energy crisis in Kyiv, a factor which has also impacted the prominence of Ukraine's issues on the international stage. The discussions in Davos thus highlight ongoing geopolitical shifts and their direct consequences for Ukraine.

Ukraine's Participation in the Forum

Ukraine's presence at the World Economic Forum underscores the nation's continued need for international support amidst its protracted conflict and domestic energy challenges. Although the Ukrainian issue is not currently a top priority, the participation of its representatives demonstrates the country's commitment to engaging in global dialogue. Meanwhile, the escalating focus on Greenland may influence Ukraine's strategic interests, as these geopolitical changes could present new challenges and potential avenues for cooperation in the region.
