According to inkorr.com: Employees of the State Bureau of Investigations have charged the head of the fuel and lubricant service of one of the military units in Mykolaiv region, who repeatedly embezzled fuel for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to the investigation, he began stealing as early as 2020 and did not stop even during the Russian invasion. At times, the official invented fictitious activities to write off fuel or 'provided' fuel to units on paper. To avoid suspicion, he himself drew the leadership's attention to a 'shortage' of over 650 tons of fuel and initiated an investigation, hoping to write off this shortage. However, the DBR found out that he had embezzled significant amounts of resources.

Characteristics of the case and relevant measures

The official has been charged with:

  • Part 3 of Article 410 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (embezzlement of military property in large amounts),
  • Part 4 of Article 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (loss of military property in particularly large amounts).

The court set a preventive measure in the form of detention and dismissed him from office. The DBR also identifies possible accomplices and takes measures to recover the losses incurred.

The sanctions of the articles provide for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 10 years.

The criminal actions of the official from Mykolaiv region, who embezzled fuel for the Armed Forces, had serious consequences for both military units and the state as a whole. However, it is important to note that this case also emphasizes the need for increased control and transparency in the management of army resources, as maintaining trust in military structures is extremely important under current conditions.
