Already in winter, a significant electricity deficit is expected due to constant shelling of Ukrainian energy facilities. The eastern regions will suffer the most. This was reported in an interview with "Novini.Live" by People's Deputy and member of the Committee on Energy and Housing and Utilities Inna Sovsun.

According to the politician, most of the destroyed generation is in the east of Ukraine.

Two large power plants are located in the west of Ukraine, and our task is to transfer electricity to the east. In case of destruction of the transmission system, there may be a situation where generation exists, but there is no possibility to transfer it to Kharkiv. Or it may be that in some regions, there is light almost around the clock, and in others, there is not. And this is precisely for this reason, - explained Sovsun.

A difficult electricity situation due to constant strikes on power transmission facilities is also developing in the Zaporizhzhia region.

Minimal solutions that local authorities can take are to install turbines - they could at least fix the critical situation. For Kharkiv, this is really necessary because the risks are too high that electricity will be produced in the country, but transferring it to Kharkiv will be impossible, - emphasized the deputy.

Recall that the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU) predicts that this winter Ukrainians should expect power outages lasting from four to 18 hours a day.

By the way, government officials say that until the end of October and in November there will be no problems with energy supply in Ukraine. They also hope that this winter will pass almost without outages, as last year.

Ensuring the security of energy facilities

The State Agency for Reconstruction and Development of Infrastructure has begun construction of the third level of passive protection at the substations of NPC "Ukrenergo", but international partners do not see the feasibility of financing such an expensive project until this technology is tested. Earlier, former head of "Ukrenergo" Volodymyr Kudrytsky reported that Ukrainian energy facilities would be provided with three-level protection in the form of engineering fortifications in case of Russian attacks.

In addition, the European Commission is working on increasing the maximum volume of electricity supplies to Ukraine. The G7 countries and other partners have collected more than four billion dollars for the restoration of Ukraine's energy infrastructure since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion.
