A decapitated businessman found in Russia: what is known about his death

According to The Sun: The body of a well-known Russian entrepreneur with a severed head has become another suspicious case among Putin's elites.

49-year-old Alexei Sinitsin was found under a bridge in Kaliningrad, tied with a rope to his own body, local media report.

Sinitsin was the CEO of K-Potash Service, a company with Dutch and Cypriot ties that extracts potassium and magnesium compounds at the Nivenskoye deposit in Kaliningrad.

The company has repeatedly been embroiled in legal disputes with Rosprirodnadzor, the federal agency in Russia that monitors the use of natural resources.

The company was expected to invest 528 million pounds in new projects.

The project was positioned as a potential 'world leader in the production of chlorine-free mineral fertilizers based on potassium and magnesium', according to Anton Alikhanov, the former governor of the Kaliningrad region and now the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Kremlin.

Investigation

The Investigative Committee of Russia has launched an investigation into the mysterious death of Sinitsin.

“The body was found 'without a head',” a source in law enforcement reported.

Sinitsin left behind his wife Elena and two daughters. Local media also noted that he had financial ties with Alexander Subotin, a former top manager of the Russian oil company LUKOIL, who was found dead in May 2022 in the basement of a house in Mytishchi.

Series of suspicious deaths

The mysterious deaths of both men fit into a trend observed even before the start of the war in Ukraine.

In July, Russian judge Irina Podnosova, 71, died after a long battle with cancer, according to official reports. However, Ukrainian commentators at the time referred to it as another case of 'mysterious' deaths among the Russian elite.

“The series of deaths of high-ranking officials in Russia continues – Putin's classmate, appointed head of the Supreme Court just a year ago, has died,”
- reported the Ukrainian telegram channel Pravda Gerashchenko.

During the same time frame, Putin's Minister of Transport Roman Starovet, 53, was shot on the day of his dismissal – his death was officially ruled a suicide.

It is also known that Andriy Badalov, a 62-year-old oil magnate, previously died after falling from the 17th floor of a luxury Moscow building. A note, likely written by him, was found near his body.

These and other mysterious deaths have sparked significant interest and discussion among experts.
