Mourning Declared in Dnipro After Russian Missile Strike: 16 Dead, 42 Wounded.
Catastrophe in Dnipro
According to UATV: A Russian missile attack on June 2 in the city of Dnipro killed 16 people and injured 42 others. As of today, 22 of the wounded remain hospitalized. In response to the tragedy, local authorities have declared an official day of mourning.
The June 2 strike caused immense destruction: 50 apartment buildings suffered severe damage, and 93 residential units are now beyond repair. Among the injured are two children. Reports also confirm that at least two families lost loved ones in this disaster.
Eyewitness Accounts
Witnesses describe harrowing scenes. One resident, Pavlo, stated:
“This time they deliberately targeted a residential area. They brought so much sorrow.” - Pavlo
Another witness, Oleksandr, detailed the critical condition of one victim:
“He has a traumatic brain injury, severe wounds to his chest and abdomen, plus injuries to his liver and limbs. He remains in critical condition and is on a ventilator.” - Oleksandr
Oleksandr also shared his experience of the rescue efforts: “On the third floor, we found a woman shielding an eight-year-old child. A two-year-old was found on the fourth floor. Finding survivors is a completely different feeling. But when you can no longer help them—that is incredibly hard.”
This tragedy has left a deep scar on the hearts of Dnipro’s residents, and today the city mourns its dead.
This missile attack is yet another example of escalating violence in the region, resulting in heavy civilian casualties. Dnipro’s authorities and medical facilities are currently focused on aiding the injured, while an investigation seeks to uncover all circumstances of the strike. Such tragedies underscore the urgent need for continued international support for Ukraine in its struggle for security and peace.
