Case Against Bohodukhiv District Council Deputy

According to Novyny.live: A deputy of the Bohodukhiv District Council, who also serves as the head of a construction firm, now faces allegations of misappropriating municipal property. The equipment he is accused of removing is valued at over 14.5 million hryvnias (approximately $350,000), sparking public outrage, especially given the ongoing wartime conditions. A pre-trial investigation is currently underway to uncover all details of this case.

Details of the Incident

Investigators have established that a contract for the reconstruction of wastewater treatment facilities in Valky was signed between the construction company director and a municipal enterprise. The stolen equipment includes:

  • submerged biodiscs,
  • pumps,
  • dosing stations,
  • screw screens.

These items were transported to the property of the suspect's mother-in-law, raising further questions about the legality of the actions.

In early 2024, the municipal enterprise demanded the return of the property. Following the investigation, the man has been notified of suspicion under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Notably, this is not the first time elected officials have been embroiled in scandal. Previously, a city council deputy of the eighth convocation was exposed for organizing the illegal transport of military-age men across the state border.

The case of the Bohodukhiv District Council deputy highlights a broader issue of abuse of power by public officials. A former Kharkiv city council deputy also came under scrutiny for spreading pro-Russian narratives and failing to file mandatory income declarations. Additionally, a former police officer offered to arrange fake disability status to avoid mobilization for $10,000. These incidents point to systemic problems within state institutions that require urgent resolution.

The situation with the suspect deputy underscores the critical need to fight corruption at all levels of government in Ukraine, especially during wartime when resources are scarce and misconduct can have severe societal consequences.

A thorough investigation of such cases could serve as a catalyst for reforming governance systems and restoring public trust in state institutions.
