Director of the Holodomor Museum vs. Blogger: A Conclusion Reached in the High-Profile Bullying Case.
The Director of the Holodomor Museum Learned That Her Lawsuit Was Not Satisfied
In the summer of 2023, lawyer-blogger Klym Bratkivskyi drew attention to the appointment of Lesia Hasydzhak as Acting Director of the Holodomor Museum in Kyiv, calling it a mockery of the memory of the Holodomor. In response, Lesia Hasydzhak filed a lawsuit to protect her honor and dignity from bullying on social networks.
However, in October 2024, the Holosiivskyi District Court of Kyiv dismissed Lesia Hasydzhak's lawsuit. Her lawyer plans to appeal this decision. This was reported by the Association of Women Lawyers of Ukraine "JurFem".
"It's too early to comment on the decision as we are waiting for the full text to analyze the reasoning part, but we are already preparing to appeal it in the appellate court," said the lawyer of the director, Oksana Huz.
In her lawsuit, Lesia Hasydzhak's lawyer indicated that negative comments and shared information have led to a negative perception of her as a scholar and public activist, damaging her business reputation and affecting professional activities. She also believes that these actions constitute a form of prolonged discriminatory harassment.
The Association of Women Lawyers notes that such judicial practice is currently lacking in Ukraine. They assert that building such practices is an important step in strengthening a democratic society where there is no room for discrimination, and freedom of speech has its limits.
Klym Bratkivskyi also expressed a sarcastic attitude towards the court's decision regarding Lesia Hasydzhak's lawsuit. He noted that he does not recall exactly who the lawsuit for 500,000 hryvnias was filed against a year ago.
