Case Details
According to information from the court, on the night of November 1 last year, the man broke the window of the Ukrposhta branch in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv with a stone, threw in a bottle of gasoline, and set it on fire. He then sent a video of the fire to his client via Telegram, who promised to pay four thousand dollars for this act.
The next time the arsonist acted on the morning of December 6: he set fire to a 'Jeep Cherokee' belonging to a military officer. For this deed, he was promised ten thousand dollars, but he was detained by law enforcement the following day.
Court Decision
During the trial, the accused admitted his guilt and expressed a desire to join the defenders of Ukraine. He communicated via Telegram with a user from Poland who offered to arrange documents for leaving the country in exchange for arsons. He also confessed that he planned to burn two cars, but was stopped by the SBU officers.
The man was sentenced to ten years in prison and must compensate the car owner 118 thousand hryvnias and Ukrposhta 295 thousand hryvnias. His property will also be confiscated.
If dissatisfied with the court's decision, there is an option to appeal within 30 days from the date the verdict is issued.
