Trump explains why the USA needs Greenland: the reason is not resources.
According to ТСН: US President Donald Trump confirmed that Greenland is significant for the United States not only because of its natural resources but also in terms of national security.
Statement from the President
Trump made this information known to reporters at the White House. He noted:
"We need Greenland for national defense. They have a very small population... They say Denmark, but Denmark hasn't spent any money, and they have no military protection."
The need for regulation
The President added that this issue requires further discussion, stating:
"We will have to deal with all of this. We need Greenland for national security, not for resources."
Greenland's resources
Additionally, Trump emphasized that the USA has no interest in Greenland's resources as it already holds significant reserves. He stated:
"We already have plenty of places with minerals, oil, and everything else. We have more oil than any other country in the world."
Security in the region
Justifying the need to strengthen security in this region, Trump pointed to the presence of Russian and Chinese ships near the coast of Greenland. He also recalled the appointment of a special envoy for Greenland.
This statement from Trump reflects the growing geopolitical tension in the Arctic region. The interest of major powers in Greenland, particularly in light of potential climate change and the opening of new trade routes, compels the USA to strengthen its presence in this strategically important area. While resources play a role, the primary goal for the USA is to enhance security in the context of global challenges.
