The Road to Nowhere - Former Fighter Spoke About the Army Without Rotation.
Former Minister and ex-military criticized the mobilization system in the Ukrainian army due to the lack of clear terms of service. He expressed these thoughts on the air of the program on Tuesday, July 22.
The Road to Nowhere
Omeljan emphasized that since mid-2022, the Ukrainian mobilization system has been taking the wrong path by not establishing a clear rotation system, effectively forcing people to serve 'until victory.'
'There should have been a proper rotation, limiting the term of service in the army to two to three years. After that, the soldier would return to normal civilian life, where a job awaits him, because during this time, the state would have taken care of providing him with a job.' - he noted.
The ex-minister also outlined a model of fair mobilization, which, in his opinion, should become the basis for a modern army.
'A citizen of Ukraine should clearly know: after mobilization, he will be trained by the best instructors and equipped with the best weapons. His unit will be led by the best commanders. And he is highly likely to return home alive and unharmed', - Omeljan noted.
He also pointed out that the current system has led to many military personnel remaining on the front without a defined term of service.
'We turned this (mobilization - Ed.) When volunteers first came to the army, the president told them that they would serve until the end of the war, until victory. Then the mobilized - someone didn’t resist, it was their turn, he went. But there was not a word about rotation,' - he emphasized.
Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced that
Member of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence Fedir Venislavskyy stated that .
Ukrainian politician and defense expert Volodymyr Omeljan criticized the lack of clear terms of service in the Ukrainian army. He emphasized the necessity of establishing rotation and limiting the terms of service for military personnel to ensure they have the opportunity to return to civilian life after military service. Omeljan also highlighted the importance of providing military personnel with the best conditions and training to ensure a successful return home, even in conflict situations.
