Boris Johnson, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, stated that Ukraine's membership in NATO is essential for achieving long-term peace in the country. He made this statement in a special interview for the Delfi publication.
“The reality was that the French were against it, the Germans were against it, not to mention the Hungarians and others,” Johnson said.
However, after the Russian aggression, the situation changed abruptly. According to Johnson, Putin's invasion made Ukraine's NATO membership a moral and strategic priority.
Nonetheless, Johnson expressed concern that the issue of Ukraine's NATO membership has become less relevant.
“I haven't heard anyone say that after the crisis ends, Ukraine's NATO membership should be a decision. And I believe this is a great loss, as the West is retreating again,” the politician emphasized.
Earlier, Boris Johnson stated that the United Kingdom may send troops to Ukraine due to dwindling support from the USA.
