Economist explained why they are trying to limit the work of NABU.
The economist Serhiy Fursa explained why attempts to limit the activities of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine take place. According to him, this is the only body that instills fear in the authorities.
While participating in the Vechir.LIVE program, he noted that the attacks on NABU indicate its effectiveness.
'All of this speaks of fear, that the only body that the authorities fear because they do not control it is NABU. The cases that NABU recently opened, who among the law enforcement agencies of Ukraine would dare to approach the president's friend or who would dare to approach the cousin of the president's friend. Only NABU dared.'
Serhiy Fursa pointed out that politicians and officials do not worry about the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), the Bureau of Economic Security (BEB), or the police, since there is always a possibility to negotiate there. He believes that Bill No. 12414 threatens the independence of the anti-corruption system and resembles the 'dictatorial laws of January 16' - an attempt to stop Ukraine's integration into the European Union.
According to history, the January 16 laws of 2014 became a symbol of authoritarian legislative initiatives carried out by the Verkhovna Rada during the government of Viktor Yanukovych. Their adoption was accompanied by procedural violations and a single vote that accelerated the collapse of the regime.
The expert emphasizes the importance of NABU's independence and the risks that may arise if the controversial bill is adopted.
