Former director of the pre-trial detention center in Taganrog charged: he ordered the torture of journalist Roschina.
The former head of the pre-trial detention center No. 2 in the city of Taganrog in the Rostov region has been charged. He was the one who ordered the torture of Ukrainian journalist Victoria Roschina, who died in captivity.
This was reported by the press service of the National Police on Thursday, August 7.
According to the investigation, during his leadership, an organized system of repressive treatment of captured Ukrainian soldiers and civilians was in place in the detention center. One of the victims was Victoria Roschina, who was detained by Russian troops in the temporarily occupied territory of the Zaporizhzhia region and transferred to this detention center.
In the detention center, Roschina suffered systematic torture, physical violence, humiliation, and psychological pressure. She was denied access to medical assistance, food, drinking water, as well as the right to sleep and rest. The journalist was forced to cooperate with the administration of the detention center under moral and physical pressure.
The murder of Victoria Roschina
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Victoria Roschina actively covered the crimes of the Russian Federation in the temporarily occupied territories. In March 2022, she was captured for the first time - she was seized in Berdyansk. After 10 days in captivity, the journalist was freed.
In July of the same year, Roschina went to Poland, from where she planned to try to re-enter the temporarily occupied territories through Russia for further journalistic investigation. However, on August 3, 2022, all communication with her was lost. Since then, Victoria Roschina has been considered missing.
In fact, the former head of the detention center in Taganrog has been charged due to his involvement in the torture and death of Ukrainian journalist Victoria Roschina during her captivity. Recently, this story has been discussed several times in the media and condemned as a human rights violation and an act of criminal behavior by Russian military personnel.
