Expert Outlines Ukraine's Security Formula: A Strong Military, Allied Support, and Their Economic Stake.
The Imperative for Strengthening Ukraine's Security
According to UATV: In an interview on the FREEДОМ TV channel, expert Yaroslav Teleshun discussed the critical need to bolster Ukraine's Armed Forces. He argued that preventing further Russian aggression also depends on Western partners having a direct economic interest in Ukraine's security. Teleshun stressed that anchoring Ukraine's safety to the national interest of the United States could be a cornerstone for regional stability. This perspective comes amid ongoing debates in Western capitals about the long-term commitment to Ukraine's defense.
Security Guarantees and Economic Integration
Yaroslav Teleshun, a candidate of political sciences, referenced a recent interview in which former U.S. President Donald Trump expressed an intent to provide security guarantees to Ukraine.
"We heard the recent interview with President Trump, where he said he would provide guarantees to Ukraine for one simple reason—he does not believe in another round of Russian aggression. But when guarantees are given based only on faith that a country will decide not to attack, it establishes a weak position,"the expert noted.
In his remarks, Teleshun proposed extending such guarantees over 20, 30, or even 50 years. However, he expressed skepticism about purely legal mechanisms, stating:
"I am skeptical of legal mechanisms."The expert emphasized the importance of systematic support from partners, which must include not just information sharing but also advanced weaponry and technology.
According to Teleshun, Ukraine's security formula rests on three fundamental pillars:
- A powerful Ukrainian army backed by a robust military-industrial complex;
- Systematic support from international partners;
- A deep economic stake for countries like the United States, France, and Germany.
"This makes the U.S. dependent on Ukraine's success and security," he added, pointing to the importance of joint economic projects, such as lithium extraction, which could solidify ties between Ukraine and its Western allies.
Thus, the expert underscored the necessity of a comprehensive approach to ensuring Ukraine's security, one that involves active international partnership and the strengthening of its own military.
Yaroslav Teleshun's statements highlight that ensuring Ukraine's security relies on both military and economic dimensions. Given the persistent threat from Russia, reinforcing its own armed forces and fostering active cooperation with Western states could be pivotal for regional stability. The expert also indicated that long-term security guarantees can only be effective if underpinned by deep economic integration between Ukraine and its Western partners.
