No Diplomatic End in Sight for the War, Says Expert: Why a Ceasefire Horizon Is Absent.
Political Analyst Oleh Saakyan Weighs In
According to UATV: According to political expert Oleh Saakyan, a diplomatic resolution to the Russia-Ukraine war is not on the table for the foreseeable future. He argues that the conflict has an existential dimension for Ukraine, which makes meaningful negotiations highly unlikely. Saakyan, a co-founder of the 'National Platform for Resilience and Cohesion,' stressed that genuine diplomacy cannot move forward unless Russia is compelled to abandon its core ambitions.
The Conflict’s Nature and Its Fallout
In the analyst’s view, this war is not fundamentally about territory—he notes that Russia did not previously put forward territorial claims. He also points out that Crimea had been heavily settled by Russians, especially during the Soviet era. Saakyan characterizes the war as a 'fight for survival,' stating,
“They (the Russians) do not want us to exist. We want to exist.”He describes the current situation as a 'delayed revanchist move' that Ukraine attempted to halt back in 2014.
The expert remarked that
“right now, there is likely not even a 3-to-6-month horizon for stopping the war in Russia.”This indicates a lack of prospects for a peaceful resolution in the near term. Consequently, Saakyan asserts that 'there is no diplomatic solution to this war,' casting doubt on any possibility of peace between the two nations in the immediate future.
Saakyan’s observations highlight the critical state of the Russia-Ukraine war, underscoring the absence of real opportunities for peace talks. He emphasizes the existential nature of the conflict for Ukraine, which shapes not only military but also political dynamics. As diplomatic solutions appear out of reach, understanding how this reality will influence the strategies and actions of both countries in the coming months becomes essential.
