Experts evaluated whether the Ukrainian front in Donbas has really "crumbled".
Ukrainians were told what is happening at the line of contact in Donetsk region and whether the Ukrainian front there has really "crumbled".
The Russian army is rapidly continuing its advance in the Donetsk region, having captured significant territory in the first two months of autumn. This is a record progress since the beginning of the war. Some military and politicians say that the Ukrainian front has crumbled.
We all know, and I won't reveal any military secret, that the front has crumbled
- said the well-known Ukrainian General Dmitry Marchenko, who led the defense of Mykolaiv at the beginning of the war.
The problem lies in the lack of ammunition and personnel in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as ineffective management. Frequent changes of commanders and the redeployment of unprepared units worsen the situation.
The Russian army has occupied the cities of Selidove, Vuhledar, and Selidove, which opens the way to Pokrovsk and Kurakhove, important logistic and industrial centers of Donbas.
Military analysts call the Russian army's tactic "chewing with jaws", when they bypass cities from the flanks, destroying the defenses around them. The Ukrainian authorities also acknowledge the problems on the front but hope for a halt of the Russian advance after the US presidential elections.
The goal of the Ukrainian forces is not to lose any regional center. It is speculated that the next targets could be Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, which the Russian President Putin demands to be removed from Ukrainian control.
