Ukraine Should Look to Europe, Not Trump, Says Former Israeli Ambassador.
Arkady Milman Weighs In on Donald Trump and Ukraine’s Strategic Path
According to Espreso.tv: Arkady Milman, who previously served as Israel’s ambassador to Russia, recently shared his perspective on Donald Trump’s foreign policy style and how it intersects with Ukraine’s interests. Speaking to the 'Studio West' project on Espreso TV, Milman highlighted that
“Trump has a unique way of handling international relations”, setting him apart from other global leaders.
Trump has publicly addressed Russia’s war against Ukraine, claiming he could bring the conflict to a swift end. He has given multiple timelines for this, including:
- 24 hours
- three weeks
- six months
- three months
- one hundred days
Yet, according to Milman, Trump now finds himself in a difficult position because of these earlier claims, which may hinder his ability to follow through on them.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Milman noted,
“understands to some extent how to deal with Trump”. Still, the former ambassador stressed that Ukraine’s primary reliance should be on European support, calling it “Ukraine’s main asset today.” For an English-speaking audience, this underscores a key geopolitical reality: while U.S. leadership remains influential, Europe’s proximity and vested interest in regional stability make it a more consistent partner for Kyiv.
Milman’s remarks highlight not only the complexities of global diplomacy but also the need for Ukraine to adopt a strategic approach when engaging with different world leaders. As the war with Russia continues, backing from Western nations—especially those in Europe—is vital for ensuring security and stability in the region. Given Trump’s unpredictability, Ukraine must keep strengthening its international partnerships to effectively tackle the challenges ahead.
