EU to Deliver €90 Billion to Ukraine Despite Orbán’s Blockade: Timeline Revealed.
European Union Loan for Ukraine
According to UATV: The European Union is moving forward with a €90 billion loan for Ukraine, pushing past opposition from Hungary. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has confirmed the funds will be released over the next two years. This financial package was originally approved by the European Council back in December of last year.
Internal EU Tensions
However, the process has hit a snag due to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s resistance. Von der Leyen publicly criticized the delay, stating:
“The loan remains blocked because one leader is not keeping his word.” - Ursula von der Leyen
Her remarks highlight growing friction within the EU, where other leaders have condemned Hungary’s stance and stressed the importance of honoring commitments.
Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa also weighed in, declaring:
“The EU must keep its word, and no one is allowed to blackmail the European Council.” - António Costa
As a result, the question of financial aid for Ukraine remains a flashpoint, stirring tension among EU member states.
This standoff underscores the complex dynamics within the European Union, where the interests of a single country can derail collective decisions. With Ukraine still at war and relying on international support, any delays in funding could destabilize the region. The outcome now hinges on ongoing negotiations among EU members and their ability to reach a compromise that keeps aid flowing to Kyiv.
