EU Proposes €90 Billion Aid Package for Ukraine, with €60 Billion Earmarked for Defense and Patriot Missiles.
Kubilius Visits Poland on Missile Diplomacy Tour
According to UATV: During a visit to Poland focused on missile supplies, European Commissioner for Defence and Space, Andrius Kubilius, discussed providing Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine. He stressed that Ukraine requires an annual supply of 2,000 missiles to counter the Russian threat, a figure underscored by Russia's launch of approximately 2,000 missile strikes against Ukraine in 2025, 900 of which were ballistic. This visit is part of a broader European effort to bolster Ukraine's defensive capabilities as the conflict continues.
Ukraine's Critical Need for Support
Kubilius pointed out that for the winter season alone, Ukraine needs around 700 Patriot missiles, specifically PAC-2 and PAC-3 classes, for which there is a current shortage. He also met with Ukrainian Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov to explore opportunities for developing Ukraine's own missile systems, which would enhance the country's long-term defensive resilience.
The European Union is prepared to offer Ukraine a loan of 90 billion euros, with 60 billion of that sum dedicated to defense support. This substantial financial commitment highlights the EU's determination to assist Ukraine in its fight for sovereignty and security.
“We must be confident that Ukraine has everything it needs to remain strong in its struggle.” - Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte
Kubilius emphasized the importance of continued international backing for Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy added that “Ukraine will help its partners defend against Iranian attacks, but not at the expense of its own defense.” These statements underscore the delicate balance Ukraine must maintain between supporting allies and securing its own territory against escalating threats.
Kubilius's diplomatic mission to Poland and the talks on missile supplies reflect the international community's growing focus on regional security. The EU's support, particularly its planned financial assistance, demonstrates allies' readiness to help Ukraine strengthen its defenses. Given the persistent threat from Russia, equipping Ukraine with modern air defense systems remains a critical priority for its national security.
