According to UATV: On January 28, European Commission spokesperson Paula Pinho confirmed the European Union is continuing its sanctions regime against Russia's shadow fleet. As part of this enforcement, French authorities have seized a tanker belonging to this fleet in the Mediterranean Sea. This action is a direct component of the EU's broader strategy to restrict Russia's oil export revenue, a critical financial lifeline for its war effort.

Since the sanctions were imposed, more than 79 sanctioned Russian tankers have ceased oil exports. Furthermore, insurance costs for vessels involved in these shipments have surged by 50%, reflecting the heightened financial and operational risks. In a significant show of unity, 14 European nations have now issued formal warnings to tankers associated with Russia's shadow operations, underscoring a coordinated stance against sanctions evasion.
