EU Set to Impose Fresh Sanctions on Russia on July 13: What the New Restrictions Could Look Like.
European Union Announces New Round of Sanctions Against Russia
According to Espreso.tv: The European Union is preparing to adopt additional sanctions targeting Russia in retaliation for the missile and drone attack on Kyiv that occurred on the night of July 2. The new measures are scheduled for approval on July 13 during a meeting of the EU Council on Foreign Affairs. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has unveiled the planned restrictions, which aim to intensify pressure on Moscow.
Proposals for these new sanctions were already submitted last Friday. On Wednesday, the Committee of Permanent Representatives (Coreper) reviewed the proposed measures. The situation on the battlefield remains tense, as Russia has escalated its large-scale combined drone and missile strikes in recent days. Some attacks have involved over 300 drones and dozens of missiles launched simultaneously.
Challenges Facing Ukraine
Ukraine is currently experiencing a shortage of interceptor missiles for the Patriot air defense system, which complicates its ability to defend against these assaults. The forthcoming EU sanctions are expected to represent another significant step in countering Russian aggression.
If approved, these new EU sanctions could have a substantial impact on Russia’s economy and its capacity to sustain military operations in Ukraine. At the same time, the situation on the front lines remains critical, with Ukrainian forces facing serious challenges due to limited military resources. The future trajectory of the conflict will depend on how Russia responds to these sanctions and how effectively Ukraine can adapt its defense strategies under the current high-pressure environment.
