Estonia strengthens border protection with the Russian Federation: metal barriers appeared on the Friendship Bridge.
Estonia strengthens the border with Russia
Estonia has begun to build new obstacles on the border with Russia. In Narva, on the Friendship Bridge connecting the country to the Russian city of Ivangorod, metal structures have already been installed.
The local television and radio company ERR reported that on the Friendship Bridge, the Estonian side has placed a massive metal gate, which will be part of the security system. Soon, retractable metal barriers will also be installed in the pedestrian zone, which can block vehicle movement in and out.
This initiative aims to prevent illegal border crossing and ensure more effective control in case of a migration crisis. Military representatives stated that they would start building a defensive line along the entire border with Russia by 2025. This project involves using modern methods in case of danger, including minefields and bridge demolitions.
'Barriers are being installed at all entry points to the border crossing that limit vehicle movement,' said Antti Eensalu, head of the Narva border checkpoint.
Construction work is also taking place on the Russian side of the bridge to create a new transport checkpoint. Meanwhile, Estonian singer Aloika expressed her position regarding the construction of a military barracks on the border with the Russian Federation.
Recall that earlier Ukrainians were warned about which passport would not allow crossing the border.
