No War Preparations in Belarus: Opposition Figure Denies Presence of Wagner Bases.
Belarus’s Military Readiness Under Scrutiny
According to UATV: On July 14, discussions emerged regarding Belarus’s military posture, focusing on a Belarusian opposition figure’s claims that the country is not preparing for war against Ukraine. Andriy Demchenko, a representative of Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service, acknowledged ongoing development of military infrastructure in Belarus but emphasized that no training facilities linked to the private military company 'Wagner' exist there.
Opposition Leader Yanki Weighs In
Opposition figure Yanki commented on the situation, stating that in his view, 'most of the bases being built are simply Russia’s attempt to prepare Belarus.' He further noted that 'Belarus does not want to enter a direct conflict and is currently trying to avoid it.' Yanki added, 'We know how he likes to speak in one direction at first, and then completely shift the conversation.'
These remarks highlight Belarus’s efforts to maintain neutrality amid the Ukraine-Russia conflict, despite its close military ties with Moscow. It is worth noting that the expansion of military infrastructure could be part of Belarus’s broader strategy to bolster its own security rather than to join the fighting. The situation remains complex and warrants continued monitoring, as it could impact regional stability.
