Today, August 13, the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned a representative of the Russian embassy and handed him a diplomatic note. The first secretary of the Russian embassy has been declared persona non grata and must be removed from the country. Estonia explained that it does not tolerate actions by Russia against its constitution and internal stability. It is also planned to inform partners and allies about this incident.
“The mentioned diplomat was directly and actively engaged in undermining the constitutional order and legal system of Estonia, as well as in creating divisions within Estonian society, facilitating the commission of crimes against the state, including several violations of sanctions”, said the Foreign Minister.
Additionally, it is known that one Estonian citizen has already been convicted for committing these crimes.
“The constant interference of the Russian embassy in the internal affairs of Estonia must cease, and the expulsion of the diplomat is a signal that Estonia does not allow activities coordinated and organized by a foreign state on its territory”, emphasized the minister.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the decision of the Estonian government is in accordance with Article 9 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which provides for the possibility for the receiving state to inform the sending state that a member of the diplomatic staff is persona non grata.

Such actions are a signal that Estonia does not tolerate interference by foreign states in its internal affairs and seeks to maintain stability and legality in the country.
