EU Enlargement Chief: Europe's Strength Depends on Ukraine's Membership.
Ukraine's Path to EU Membership
According to Novyny.live: Speaking at the Justice Conference on February 23, EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Koss stated that Ukraine's accession to the European Union is vital for strengthening Europe itself. She stressed that Ukraine requires clear timelines to achieve this goal, remarking:
“The entire process of Ukraine's accession to the EU is not charity. We are doing this because Ukraine is indispensable for an independent Europe.” - Marta Koss
This perspective comes as Ukraine continues its reform efforts amidst ongoing conflict, making the clarity of the EU's commitment a pressing geopolitical issue.
Austria also supports Ukraine's ambition to join the bloc. Beate Meinl-Reisinger, head of Austria's Foreign Ministry, emphasized the importance of this process and affirmed her country's readiness to provide support.
The Need for a Clear Timeline
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha echoed this sentiment, underlining the necessity for specific deadlines regarding Ukraine's EU accession. The question of Ukraine's integration thus remains a priority requiring intensified efforts from both sides.
Ukraine's entry into the European Union represents a crucial stage in European integration, holding strategic significance not only for Ukraine but for regional stability and security. Clear timelines and backing from existing EU members, like Austria, could significantly accelerate this process and strengthen ties between Ukraine and Europe.
In this context, intensifying dialogue on the conditions and stages of accession is essential to ensure transparency and public understanding of this path for Ukrainian society.
