EU Commissioner Declares Ukraine’s Membership Path Irreversible.
Ukraine’s EU Accession Process
According to Novyny.live: Speaking at the YES Dinner Discussion in Gdańsk, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos stated that Ukraine’s journey toward joining the European Union is now irreversible. She emphasized that Ukraine stands a strong chance of becoming an EU member—provided it meets its commitments, while the EU likewise fulfills its responsibilities.
Kos highlighted the significance of launching the first negotiation cluster, calling it a critical milestone in Ukraine’s integration into the European Union. At the same time, she acknowledged the obstacles that remain. Notably, on June 23, Hungary blocked a key procedural step that would have advanced both Ukraine and Moldova toward EU membership, adding further complexity to the process.
Outlook for Ukraine’s EU Membership
Analysts assess Ukraine’s chances of joining the EU over the medium term. Under an optimistic scenario, membership could be achieved in roughly five years, while a more realistic estimate points to about a decade.

Looking ahead, Ukraine’s contribution to European security remains a key factor that will shape the integration process. The country continues to demonstrate its readiness to fulfill the requirements for membership—a vital step toward European integration, according to Kos.
Ukraine’s accession to the European Union remains a major geopolitical issue, especially given current security challenges in the region. The opening of the negotiation cluster and further cooperation with the EU could significantly influence stability and development—not only in Ukraine but across Europe. Since the integration process demands effort from both sides, it is essential that Ukraine keeps meeting its obligations while the EU continues to support the country’s European aspirations.
