The British Prime Minister will visit Washington

The visit of Keir Starmer, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, to Washington, scheduled for Thursday, takes on significant importance following recent diplomatic events. The USA and Russia jointly voted at the UN, effectively blocking criticism of Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. President Trump also expressed readiness to accept European troops on Ukrainian territory, but this statement was dismissed by Moscow.

French President Emmanuel Macron collaborated with London in unprecedented coordination. They used their visits to the USA as a joint pressure tactic on the Trump administration regarding security guarantees for Ukraine and partnership with Europe.

However, the results of Macron's visit were less successful than expected. The agreement on the deployment of European troops in Ukraine as a guarantee to ceasefire, which was reached, quickly came under threat after Russia's objections.

This would signify a significant shift in Russia's policy. Last year, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service warned of the possibility of 'occupation of Ukraine' under the guise of a peacekeeping mission. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also categorically stated the unacceptability of NATO forces' presence on Ukrainian territory.

Using his pragmatic approach, Starmer will need to obtain specific answers from Trump on several fundamental issues, including security guarantees for Ukraine, an agreement on resource extraction, and the role of the USA in securing a peace agreement.

Particular concern is raised by the situation in the UN, where the USA, along with Russia, blocked criticism of Russia at the General Assembly. The Franco-British position demands the involvement of the USA as a strategic partner for reliable security guarantees for Ukraine.

However, Trump approached the issue from a different angle, stating that Putin does not oppose the presence of European troops in Ukraine. 'This will not be a problem, as Russia will return to its affairs after signing the agreement. So will Ukraine and Europe,' Trump said.

However, during a press meeting, the American president did not once mention common values or European security. This fact did not go unnoticed by Macron and Starmer before their visit to Washington.
