EU Seeks Timeline for 'Druzhba' Pipeline Repair, Ukraine Responds.
Repairing the 'Druzhba' Oil Pipeline
According to Novyny.live: The European Union has requested a specific timeline for the potential restoration of the 'Druzhba' oil pipeline. In discussions with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine must provide this information. Zelenskyy emphasized the need to determine a feasible date based on the technical processes required for repair.
Ukraine's state energy company, Naftogaz, previously indicated that oil deliveries could resume within one and a half to two months. However, President Zelenskyy clarified that this is only a theoretical possibility, as the work involves not just restarting flows from reservoirs but also rebuilding critical infrastructure damaged by missile attacks.
Hungarian Delegation's Visit
Further complicating the situation, a Hungarian delegation arrived in Ukraine on March 11 to inspect the condition of the 'Druzhba' pipeline. President Zelenskyy noted he was unaware of the delegation's specific intentions. The overall timeline for restoring the pipeline remains uncertain, and EU representatives are awaiting prompt updates from the Ukrainian side.
The 'Druzhba' pipeline is a crucial artery for European energy security, and its disruption has significant regional implications. Its restoration is vital for both Ukraine and European nations dependent on this supply route. The current complexity stems from extensive infrastructure damage sustained during the conflict. Timely information from Ukraine is essential for understanding the realistic prospects for resuming supplies, which could impact energy markets across the region.
