United Kingdom to pay £120 for living: who will receive assistance.
According to The Sun: Low-income households will receive £120 starting next week to help cover energy and food costs.
This funding is part of the Household Support Fund.
GettyLocal authorities in England are distributing their shares of the fund, which will operate until March 2026, to households in need of support.
Typically, this includes residents who receive social benefits, have low incomes, or are considered vulnerable.
For instance, Leeds City Council aims to provide financial support to the most needy families. This cash assistance will cover essential living costs during the winter months.
Who is eligible for assistance?
Households in Leeds must be receiving council tax support as of October 13 to be eligible for payment.
To receive such support, you must have capital (savings, investments, and property) of less than £16,000.
Moreover, if you and your partner have reached the age qualifying for the State Pension, you may also be eligible for this support.
Vulnerable groups may receive up to 100% support, including:
- Pensioners
- Persons with disabilities
- Single parents responsible for children under five
- Carers eligible for care allowance
- War widows and military pensioners
The size of your discount will depend on income and circumstances.
If you are also receiving Universal Credit, you may apply for tax support, but the maximum discount will be 75%, and you will not be eligible for a discount for a second adult.
The payment will be £120 for families with children and £55 for those without children.
The financial aid will be based on data from your application for council tax support.
Additional assistance will be provided through a postal department voucher, starting October 13, and must be claimed by the end of November.
Leeds City Council also confirmed that extra funding is available for residents who need emergency support for food, energy, and household items.
What do other councils offer?
Since the Household Support Fund is issued independently through local councils in England, the level of support may vary depending on the region.
Payments may be made at different times, and various vouchers and grants may also be available.
To find out what’s available in your area, contact your local council directly.

Payments of £100 are available for households with or without children that meet the criteria.

How has the Household Support Fund changed?
The Household Support Fund was first launched in October 2021 to help Britons cope with the difficulties of the winter season amid the cost of living crisis.
Councils across the country received a share of £421 million available to provide assistance to those in need.
Then the program was extended in the spring budget of 2022 and again in October of the same year to support people with the lowest incomes amid rising living costs.
The Department for Social Security confirmed a third extension of the program until March 31, 2024.
Former Chancellor Jeremy Hunt extended the Support Fund for a fourth time, announcing it during the spring budget on March 6, 2024.
In September 2024, the government announced a fifth extension.
