Ukraine's ambassador to Washington, Oksana Markarova, reportedly 'held her head in her hands' in despair. The planned joint press conference was canceled, and Trump, on his Truth Social account, blamed Zelensky for 'unreadiness for peace.'

The cause of the failure was that Zelensky did not agree with Trump on the amounts of financial assistance to Ukraine from the U.S. and Europe. The president of Ukraine justified Trump several times.

'The problem is that I gave you the authority to be the tough guy, and I don't think you would be a tough guy without the U.S.,' an irritated Trump declared, ending the meeting. Trump's last words to Zelensky were: 'You are acting completely ungrateful, and that is bad.'

There were also discrepancies regarding trust in Vladimir Putin. Trump expressed confidence that after a peace agreement is reached, 'everything will be over,' while Zelensky reminded that Putin had violated agreements 25 times and emphasized that Ukraine would not agree to a ceasefire without security guarantees from the U.S.

Owen Matthews sees Zelensky as having 'fatally mistyped,' considering his previous success in convincing Western leaders to support Ukraine. As a result of this 'righteous indignation,' relations collapsed, and the consequence may be the loss of support from the largest and most powerful ally, according to the author.
