Fencer Kharlan achieved a unique feat for Ukrainian sports.
Fencer Olha Kharlan became the absolute record holder of Ukrainian sports after her victory at the 2024 Olympics in team sabre. This was Ukraine's first gold in this sport at the Olympic Games.
Kharlan won her 6th Olympic medal, which is a record for Ukrainian female athletes. Previously, this record belonged to swimmer Yana Klochkova, who continues to reside in Crimea, which was annexed by Russia.
Olha Kharlan also became the fifth Ukrainian female athlete to win 2 Olympic gold medals. Her predecessors were Yana Klochkova, Lilia Podkopayeva, Vasyl Lomachenko, and Yuriy Cheban.
