Global stock markets set a new historical record.
The global stock markets set a new historical record as the American economy demonstrated stability, leading to a forgetting of trading instabilities. The MSCI All-Country World Index rose to 888.24 points, surpassing the previous peak of 887.72 points recorded in February. Easing tensions from U.S. President Donald Trump regarding tariffs contributed to the market rise.
Optimism in stock markets
Fears of recession have receded after a successful quarter of corporate reports in the U.S. and Europe, as well as amid labor market stability in America. 'Everyone was waiting for the American economy to head downward, but yesterday's employment data suggests otherwise,' noted Benjamin Melman, Chief Investment Officer at Edmond de Rothschild Asset Management. Investors are betting on a market downturn using the acronym TACO (Trump Always Caves On).
Trade instability has intensified again following accusations between Washington and Beijing over breach of agreements. Trump expressed difficulty in reaching an agreement with Chinese President Xi Jinping, highlighting the tensions between the two largest economies in the world.
After a successful quarter of corporate reports in the U.S. and Europe, alongside the resilience of the labor market in America, fears regarding recession have subsided, leading to a rise in stock markets globally.
