France and Germany will provide Ukraine with more air defense systems: details of the decision.
According to FREEДOM:
Cooperation of France and Germany in ensuring Ukraine's security
France and Germany plan to provide Ukraine with new air defense systems and strengthen cooperation on security issues. This was stated by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron after the 25th Franco-German Council of Ministers, which took place in Toulon, reports FREEДOM.
In a joint communiqué, the leaders confirmed their intention to initiate a strategic dialogue on nuclear deterrence and strengthen relations in the field of security between the two countries.
Regarding Ukraine, the conversation is about the commitment to provide more air defense systems.
'France and Germany will provide additional air defense to Ukraine', the statement says.
The leaders also emphasized that despite the active diplomatic efforts of the international community, Russia shows no intention of stopping military actions.
'I have already noticed this week that Putin is clearly not ready to meet with President Zelensky. He makes completely unacceptable preliminary conditions. He is constantly dragging his feet. When there were talks with President Trump, it all sounded quite different. I am not surprised because this is part of the strategy of the President of Russia — to act this way', noted German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
Earlier, Lithuania's Minister of Defense Dovilė Šakalienė noted that Putin is just stalling for time, so pressure needs to be applied to Moscow to end the war against Ukraine.
Thus, the initiative of France and Germany to strengthen air defense for Ukraine is an important step in ensuring security in the region. Given the current challenges, the leaders of the two countries emphasize that support for Ukraine will remain a priority, despite the difficulties in diplomatic relations with Russia. This indicates the seriousness of Europe's intentions to protect the freedom and sovereignty of Ukraine.
