BlackCore's Election Meddling Through Digital Means

According to Espreso.tv: France's disinformation detection unit, Viginum, has uncovered a digital interference campaign by BlackCore targeting elections not only within France but also in Angola, Togo, Scotland, and the upcoming 2025 New York City municipal elections. Viginum chief Marc-Antoine Brillant presented a technical report stating that

“this modus operandi was not limited to municipal elections in France”
. However, the report failed to identify the sponsor or sponsors behind the interference, as Brillant noted:
“Our investigations did not allow us to identify the sponsor or sponsors”
.

The Rising Threat of Disinformation

Paris has reached out to Jerusalem regarding BlackCore's activities. In response, the Israeli embassy in Paris denied any involvement, asserting that 'Israel certainly has no intention of interfering in the French political process'. Separately, in November 2025, following Donald Trump's election as president, the first major U.S. election saw 34-year-old Zohran Mamdani become mayor of New York City.

The exposure of BlackCore's digital interference highlights the growing danger of disinformation and its impact on elections worldwide. The inability to pinpoint the sponsors raises critical questions about how nations can effectively counter such threats. Given the global stakes, international cooperation is essential for detecting and resisting foreign influence on political processes, as these actions could severely undermine stability and democratic values across the world.
