Claire’s closes 145 stores: full list of addresses.
According to The Sun: Claire’s Accessories, a well-known store chain, has announced the permanent closure of 145 stores.
The retailer has initiated a major final sale in the closing stores, offering a 20% discount on the entire range.
EPAEarlier this week, company administrators reached an agreement to sell 156 stores to investment group Modella Capital, which helped save about 1,000 jobs.
Unfortunately, 145 stores were not included in the deal and are now set for closure.
The sales started last weekend, with a 20% discount on all items, as the company prepares to close its doors for good.
The closing dates will vary depending on the store, but they are expected to occur within the next few weeks.
Administrator Interpath Advisory noted that they did everything possible to find a buyer for the remaining stores, but had no choice but to close them.
“Our desire is to continue trading the remaining portfolio of stores for as long as possible while we explore available options,”said Interpath CEO Will Wright.
The British subsidiary Claire’s fell into administration on August 13, just days after its parent company in the U.S. filed for bankruptcy on August 7.
The American business was sold to a new owner, allowing 950 stores in the U.S. to remain open.
British Modella Capital made a deal with the American owner of Claire’s Ames Watson to keep 156 stores in the UK open.
However, new closures and job losses may be on the horizon as Modella negotiates with landlords over lease agreements.
Head of Modella Capital Joe Price stated:
“As a firm, we firmly believe this beloved brand deserves a chance to remain on the high street in the UK and Ireland.”
“The challenges Claire’s is facing are significant, and we need to work collaboratively with all stakeholders if our proposed rescue plan is to be successful.”
The investment group is taking serious steps in retail; earlier this year, they acquired the WHSmith chain, renaming it TG Jones. They also hold stakes in Hobbycraft, Paperchase, and Tie Rack.
As of today, bargain hunters can take advantage of the last promotion at Claire’s, but for 145 stores, the celebration is officially over.
Problems on the Street
This news comes after River Island and Poundland avoided administration by reaching agreements with creditors for restructuring that included store closures and job cuts.
River Island plans to close up to 33 stores by January to help pay off debts of the fashion brand.
Closures are expected in major cities across the UK, such as Edinburgh, Leeds, Oxford, Brighton, and Perth.
Meanwhile, fashion retailer New Look has closed a dozen locations in the UK this year and has also exited the market in Ireland.
The fashion chain Monki, owned by H&M, closed its final stores in August.

The events surrounding Claire’s Accessories highlight tough times for retail, especially amid economic instability and shifting consumer preferences. The closure of 145 stores marks yet another signal of the challenges many retailers face. Despite the deal that allowed some stores to remain open, the final closures once again demonstrate how crucial it is to adapt to new market conditions.
At the same time, other management strategies in the retail sector, such as agreements with creditors, show the willingness of many companies to survive during tough times. In the midst of a global crisis, changes in shopping require companies to be flexible and innovative.
