Why Ukraine’s General Staff Wants NATO Drills on Its Soil.
International Military Exercises in Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine’s General Staff of the Armed Forces is pushing to host multinational training exercises within the country, aiming to make the learning process more effective. This push comes as foreign partners show growing interest in Ukraine’s battlefield experience, particularly since Russia launched its full-scale invasion.
Yevhen Mezhevikin, deputy head of the Main Directorate of Doctrines and Training at the General Staff, noted that international demand for the Ukrainian military’s combat know-how increases every year. This reflects the recognition of Ukraine’s armed forces as a key global player capable of sharing valuable skills and insights. As Mezhevikin put it,
“experience is the most precious thing our country has—what we have gained, continue to gain, and what we can use to attract our partners.”
Collaboration with International Allies
Ukraine already takes part in joint drills with NATO countries, strengthening military cooperation. However, Mezhevikin stressed that
“the most effective exchange of experience can only happen on our territory, with service members who have constant combat experience.”Hosting international exercises in Ukraine would therefore not only improve training for Ukrainian troops but also give other nations direct access to cutting-edge insights into modern warfare.
The rising interest in Ukraine’s combat expertise and its willingness to work with global partners highlight the country’s growing role in the international security landscape. These drills could become a cornerstone for building a more robust collective defense system.
Running international exercises in Ukraine would boost the readiness of Ukrainian forces while deepening military ties with allies. This step could prove vital for advancing strategic cooperation between Ukraine and its partners, especially given ongoing threats from Russia. International acknowledgment of the Ukrainian military’s battlefield experience underscores the country’s active part in safeguarding global stability. In light of current challenges, such initiatives may significantly shape effective collective defense mechanisms.
