Parliament's Effectiveness Nearing Zero, Says Ukrainian Finance Committee Chair.
Sharp Criticism of Parliamentary Performance
According to Novyny.live: Danylo Hetmantsev, who chairs the Verkhovna Rada's finance committee, has delivered a stinging assessment of the legislature's work, claiming its effectiveness is rapidly approaching zero. In his remarks, he urged fellow lawmakers to refocus on their core responsibilities, stressing the urgent need to change their approach amid today's challenges.
Since taking up his post in 2019, Hetmantsev has been deeply involved in decision-making processes. However, he now observes that many deputies are preoccupied with personal matters rather than parliamentary duties.
“A lot of them are just taking photos, running live streams, collecting likes. They're busy with themselves—but this is not the time for that,” Hetmantsev emphasized.
Obstacles and Pressing Issues
It is worth noting in this context that Andriy Motovylovets serves as first deputy head of the 'Servant of the People' faction, while Oleksandr Yurchenko is a people's deputy. Yet, in Hetmantsev's view, it is precisely this focus on personal interests that significantly hampers the parliament's effectiveness. His call to concentrate on critical matters remains timely as society expects decisive action and meaningful reforms from its elected officials.
Hetmantsev's statements highlight the urgent problems facing Ukraine's parliament, where insufficient attention to core duties could undermine the implementation of reforms essential for the country's development. The situation, in which deputies prioritize personal interests, underscores the need for systemic changes in the Verkhovna Rada's operations to boost its efficiency and ensure it meets the demands of the current era.
